Steve: The Afenure

Finally, after all that hard work I've submitted this.

I was worried that I'd lost all my photos after my hard drive crashed. >.<

The creature is invented, it is known as an Afenure. Or for my friendly terms, this one is called Steve.

He was made for my final university degree show back in June.

Beneath, he is made from primarily Polyurethane foam. The hide is made of sythetic fur, cockrel, guinea foul and pheasant feathers. The details, such as claws and eyes are made from glass, milliput, suede and flocking.

He took 7 weeks to build through 12 hour shifts, everyday.

For this reason there are a few anatomy mistakes. I didn't get chance to research at all before embarking on the 12 hour shifts for 7 weeks. When I did, I was exhausted at the end of the day and to tried to remember.
Hacking away at foam all day with saws are surforms over a 3 metre suction fan wearing a facemask, gloves and goggles is pretty tiring.

The main reason for building him like this is to test the extent of my materials and to familiarise myself with them. E.g. None polyurethane glue eats into polyurethane foam, it melts and smells awful, which can make one feel ill.
Some faster, slim chained bandsaws are bad for cutting, they heat up and melt polyurethane. Bad... very bad... broken bandsaw.

Luckily I never managed to poison or destroy anything.

Testing fur layout was tedious but extremely useful. It's more than just cutting and stitching on.

Anyway,

He's 158.5 cm or 5ft 2" high.

... And yes, people were allowed to stroke him during the show.
